Rural Child Development

Teach yourselves, teach everyone, his real nature,

call upon the sleeping soul and see how it awakes.

Power will come, glory will come, goodness will come,

purity will come, and everything that is excellent will come,

when this sleeping soul is roused to self-conscious activity.

- Swami Vivekananda-

Putting these words of Swamiji into practice, RHS also takes up educational and spiritual development of rural children through various means:

  • Balavedi
Every week, at various rural health centres, Balavedi is conducted which involves cultural activities and discourses on various topics like religious scriptures (Bhagavad Gita, Mahabaratha, etc.), personality development, value education, etc.

  • Personality Development & Leadership Camps

These week-long camps are organized every year during summer vacations. Eminent personalities from various fields are invited to deliver speeches on topics like personality development, leadership qualities, career planning, useful tips in attending interviews, etc. Yoga classes are also conducted during this camp.

  • National Youth Day Celebrations

Every year, National Youth Day, January 12th, is being celebrated. As a part of these celebrations, various inter-school competitions like Essay Writing, Quiz, Painting, Singing, Elocution, Gita chanting, etc. are conducted. Nearly 2500 students from 50 schools participate each year in these competitions at various centres. Centre-level winners compete in the final round. Prizes are distributed for the top three winners.

  • Financial aid to poor students

Every year financial aid is given to deserving poor students to pursue their higher studies. Uniforms and books are distributed to freely to about 500 students annually.
