The hospital which initially started as a small dispensary in Sasthamangalam, a suburb of the city in 1936, steadily grew through the years and developed into a full-fledged general hospital. The hospital provides modern medical treatment under the following specialties:
The hospital is one of the biggest in the city with 200 beds of which 78 in the General Wards were set apart for the low income group patients. They were provided with medical care, nursing care, diet and accommodation free of charge. Deserving cases are also given concession in the cost of medicines. The hospital medical staff consists of 34 Specialists / Senior Doctors and 7 Junior Doctors. The nursing service is headed by a Nursing Superintendent and has 50 GNMs (General Nursing and Midwifery). Besides these, 8 nursing school teaching staff, 7 laboratory technicians, 2 X-ray technicians, 30 attenders, 25 cleaners and 62 others (in all 226 persons) are working in the institution.
